My 2013 Captured in Five Photos

January 18, 2014

I tried harder in 2013 to capture my life through photos. Looking through all 2,500 of them reminded me of the many small moments that happened. Below are just a few of my favorites.

The picture above is by far my favorite. It’s of my father washing potatoes before they headed to the Cedar Falls Farmer’s Market in Cedar Falls, Iowa. It was one of the first weeks that my brother’s stand would be at the market, an event years in the making. The photo captured more than just my dad’s worn and dirty hands scrubbing the soil from the young red potatoes. It embodied the hard work and dedication of my brother and father as they worked tirelessly to build a business and grow food for hundreds of people.

Young winter wheat breaks through the Iowa soil on my brother’s farm. The sun was just setting which made for some great light to capture the small leaves.

The north and south lanes of a highway in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Taken on one of my many bike rides through George Wyth State Park.

I originally took a photo of this tree in Cedar Falls on a walk with Arthur, my dog, on my iPhone. After seeing how it turned out I returned with my camera to capture this one. The colors were just amazing.

The city of Reykjavik, Iceland is full of colorful houses and cleanly designed Scandinavian architecture. There is also a pond in the middle of town with a running path around it. My trip to Iceland is surely one I will never forget.

I would love to know what you think. There were so many to choose from that it was hard to narrow it down. Check out my Instagram to see hundreds of others. I have also contemplated doing more commercial photography this coming year. Let me know if you have any interesting projects we could work on together.
