TinyFew: A #Profile on a Creative Extension

October 19, 2014

It’s always easy to start a passion project. You know… you have a fun idea and you start the process of turning it into something more. These types of projects are usually the easiest to start but the hardest to keep going. Turning that idea into a project and then a business is a dream for many. What is easy to overlook, is those around us that are doing just that. They have taken the next step and are building something. TinyFew is just that.

I became friends with Terrin Conlon and Maxwell Lind while we worked together at Spinutech in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Over multiple nights of drinks we discussed our passions for creating “more”. The “more” was always shifting and changing but the desire to create was shared between us. One day we decided to collaborate. I wanted to take more portraits and they wanted portraits taken for their website. As we talked about ideas they started to tell me how they started working together and where their inspiration comes from. The following is an introduction to them and their work.

Like many they didn’t really set out to create a small side business. They started working together just as a creative extension of their day jobs. It has now blossomed into a the creation of custom cards, wedding invitations, posters and more. “Tiny few is definitely a creative outlet for me. It fufills the need for creativity that I don’t always get from my 8-5 job.” said Conlon, describing the corporate web design she does during the day and the often playful and physical design work she does as part of TinyFew.

One of TinyFew’s many projects in the works. See more on their Instagram.

TinyFew became an extension and combination of both’s freelance work as they found themselves taking on bigger and more labor intensive projects. The naming of their joint venture embodies the very thing that started their work together, “I think the funny part of the name is that there is a tiny few amount of people that would follow this path of pushing to the next thing, always wanting more, always wanting to dig… that is a big aspect of Tiny Few.” Lind said.

As we discussed the future of their endeavor it was simple and they said it so perfectly on their blog.

In all aspects of life, we’re given a choice. Sometimes you choose right, sometimes you choose wrong. That’s part of life. The ups and downs will come and go in waves, that’s a guarantee…it’ll be tough…it’ll be hard…it might be the most difficult thing you’ve ever faced, but if you trust your heart, listen to your gut, and chase your dreams, the story you write will be your own. This is our story…
